ABOUT ME:

Dr. Chesky (Charles) Gewirtz received his doctorate in Combined Clinical-School Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University (YU) and his Master’s in Education from Azrieli Graduate School of Education at YU. Additionally, he has rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and has served as a pulpit rabbi providing pastoral counseling and facilitating life cycle events. He has worked in a wide range of clinical settings providing psychological services including schools, community-based clinics and hospitals. While Dr. Gewirtz treats a wide range of clinical presentations, he specializes in treating anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive, post traumatic stress, specific phobias) in children, adolescents and adults. He also has extensive experience in conducting psychological evaluations for all ages.  

​Using primarily a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach, Dr. Gewirtz tailors treatment for the individual patient, integrating aspects of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Family Systems and Psychodynamic theories. He helps his patients develop insight into their emotional experience and teaches them cognitive and behavioral skills to help enhance their quality of daily living. Dr. Gewirtz’s sincerity, warmth and sense of humor make it easy for patients to feel comfortable and supported in their path towards successful treatment.
Dr. Gewirtz also lectures on many relevant psychology and religious topics and provides supervision and training to doctoral students.
