ABOUT ME:
Dr. Chesky (Charles) Gewirtz received his doctorate in Combined Clinical-School Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University (YU) and his Master’s in Education from Azrieli Graduate School of Education at YU. Additionally, he has rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and has served as a pulpit rabbi providing pastoral counseling and facilitating life cycle events. He also taught on both the elementary and high school level. As a psychologist, he has worked in a wide range of clinical settings, which include schools, community-based clinics and hospitals. While Dr. Gewirtz treats a range of diagnoses, he specializes in treating anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive, post traumatic stress, specific phobias) in children, adolescents and adults. He also has extensive experience in conducting psychological evaluations for all ages.
With training in a number of different treatment modalities (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/ACT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy/DBT, Family Systems, Psychodynamic), Dr. Gewirtz utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy and tailors the treatment for the patient's individual needs. He helps his patients develop insight into their emotional experience and teaches them cognitive and behavioral skills to help enhance their quality of daily living. Dr. Gewirtz’s sincerity, warmth and sense of humor make it easy for patients to feel comfortable and supported in their path towards successful treatment.
